Restaurant Joint Venture

500 new jobs are to be created in an expansion of the Café Bar Deli restaurant chain in a joint venture with O’Briens Sandwich Bars. The new company will open 20 new restaurants in Ireland over the next 4 years, before expanding the concept into the U.K. and overseas.

Café Bar Deli was founded in 2001, by pub entrepreneurs Jay Bourke and Eoin Foyle, and four outlets have been opened, including the company’s flagship outlet in Bewleys Café on Grafton Street, Dublin. The restaurant’s Mediterranean themed pizza and pasta menu is combined with low prices, to create a profitable formula. The entrepreneurs have been responsible for introducing some of the most popular brands in Ireland, as poster boys for the Celtic Tiger. EDEN, The Globe, Market Bar, Odessa Private members Club, Bodega and Bellinter House Hotel are just some of the businesses they have created. Bourke and Foyle became household names in Dublin, when they stepped in to rescue the Dublin institution Bewleys on Grafton Street, which was about to close down some years ago.

The Americans never do anything by halves and that includes their admiration, fascination and love of food. Each year America hosts the International CORDON D’OR, Gold Ribbon Culinary Academy Awards, the ‘foodies’ equivalent to The Oscars, without the drama!

Ballyknocken Cookery School is officially the CORDON D’OR Culinary Academy International Cookery School of the Year 2007.

Unbeknownst to Catherine, a team from the Culinary Academy was travelling around the country, in search of Ireland’s culinary talent and it was on a visit to Ballyknocken Cookery School that they discovered her.

These awards have been running for over twenty years and their aim is to acknowledge and reward the crème de la crème of epicurean talent throughout the world.

The awards took place in January 2008, in Florida.

Ballyknocken House and Cookery School is situated in Glenealy, Ashford, Co Wicklow, so guests enjoy the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of the Garden of Ireland as well as Catherine’s ability to present and teach others so they can enjoy her most coveted and renowned culinary dishes.

Good Food Ireland Wins Prestigious Marketing Award

Good Food Ireland has recently been awarded the New Business Marketing Award 2008 by the Marketing Institute of Ireland South East Awards.

The panel of Judges selected three finalists and praised the overall winner, Good Food Ireland, for its national food tourism strategy. Margaret Jeffares, Managing Director, was also congratulated for her vision and outstanding achievements in such a short period of time.

Good Food Ireland established just over a year ago, collectively markets good food places throughout the whole island of Ireland. Members are assessed using regulated brand criteria and then marketed to the domestic and international tourist. Membership categories include a wide cross-section of establishments from restaurants, accommodation, pubs, cafes, cookery schools, food shops, food producers and micro-breweries. The organisation is driven by the industry in a bottom up approach, as they want recognition and endorsement for their commitment to serving local Irish produce. The Good Food Ireland ethos is to use the core indigenous ingredients of Irish cuisine and promote local and artisan food producers.

Consumers can identify members by the Good Food Ireland sign at their door, on their website www.goodfoodireland.ie  and can also purchase local Irish food hampers to be sent anywhere in the world, view suggested food tours and recipes, book restaurants, accommodation and cookery schools and join the Good Food Ireland Food Club for free.
