Corporate Partnership Committee Holds Federal Contracting Panel Featuring Contracting Executives
The Corporate Partnership Committee held a panel discussion Friday, November 7, on Federal Contracting Opportunities featuring executives from companies such as Northrop Grumman, AMS, BearingPoint, and Booz Allen Hamilton.  The panel served to foster understanding of the federal contracting industry that is central to the Washington D.C. area and can provide tremendous opportunities for MBA students.

The panel was moderated by Professor Stevan Holmberg and focused on company strategy, MBA recruitment and the federal contracting industry as a whole. Panelists included:
  • American Management System [AMS]- Amy King, Vice President
  • BearingPoint Inc.- Dr. Dennis Weaver, MD- Chief Medical Officer and Managing Director
  • Booz Allen Hamilton- Jeff Myers, Senior Associate; Gary Bettger, Associate; Joyce Sowa-Parker Associate
  • Northrop Grumman- Jeff Brody, Executive Director

Overall, the panel was a great success on both sides of the table.  Sowa Parker from Booz Allen Hamilton remarked that, "It was a great opportunity to be on a campus again and discuss Booz Allen with the MBA students.  What a great group of candidates."

Jeff Brody of Northrop Grumman said, "I enjoyed it immensely.”

Students echoed the sentiment and one student remarked that it was a great panel and many attributed the panel's success to the high-level employees representing industry leading companies and the high quality of the students in the audience.

After the panel, students and panelists were invited to a stay for a networking reception.  According to one student, "The panelists stayed afterwards for a long time and were really receptive to students approaching them to network."

The Corporate Partnership Committee is a student run organization whose mission is to act as a liaison between the administration and staff of the business school and its students and potential employers. The committee works closely with the Graduate Career Service staff and would like to thank Jonathan Lamb and Kerry Soffar for their help and support.

Google IPO

For an anticipated IPO, the founders of internet search firm, Google, are considering a Dutch auction of shares rather than the traditional institutional allocation process. What do you think of this idea?

Great idea. It allows individual investors to have greater access to IPO's

Bad idea. It is too risky and should be handled by investment banks who have experience handling IPOs.
