Giving Voice 10: Breath Inspiration Voice
International Festival of the Voice in Performance, 27 March – 2 April 2008
Giving Voice invites exponents of voice from a wide variety of cultures and areas of expertise to explore the relationship, tangents and nuances, between breath and voice, and that vital component, inspiration, in all its meanings and resonances. Focusing on the voice in performance, practitioners and scholars come together in an inspirational programme of workshops, lecture demonstrations and performances.
As part of Visiting Arts' Iran/UK Cultural Exchange Programme, supported by British Council, the Vahdat Ensemble present A Blessing of Song from a Persian Garden.
About the Vahdat Ensemble
Classical Persian music is based upon a modal system and places particular priority on improvisation and ornamentation; vocal parts are often decorated with Tahrir, a vocal ornamentation similar to yodelling. A rare chance to immerse yourself in this beautiful and unique Middle Eastern music tradition with sisters Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat whose repertoire includes old Persian traditional songs as well as regional and folk songs from Iran and their own compositions.
